Help Protect The Environment!

World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June every year. It was established in 1972 by the General Assembly. It makes people aware of the environmental problems that we are facing. It also encourages people to come forward with an action plan to save the environment. There are various environmental concerns like pollution, overpopulation, global warming, and wildlife crime.
Around 143 countries participate in the program annually.
Pollution

Pollution is the harmful addition of contaminants in the environment. This problem can cause an unfavorable change in the atmosphere, which can affect biodiversity.
The significant forms of pollution are air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, light pollution, visual pollution, plastic pollution, etc.
Overpopulation
When a particular species exceeds its mortality average, and the rate of births is much more than the number of deaths, then overcrowding occurs.
There are a particular food chain and food web in the environment. However, overpopulation of a species affects the food chain drastically and causes a change in the ecosystem, which endangers other organisms in the same food web.
Human overpopulation is a significant concern. Due to the advance in Science, technology, and medicine, the average life-span of a human being has increased, leading to this problem.
Global Warming
Due to the increase in pollutants in the atmosphere, the temperature of the Earth has increased. It is beyond a safe measure.
Global warming has caused rising sea levels, changes in precipitation, extreme weather conditions, and expansion of deserts. Due to this, there is a change in ecosystems. It causes a significant problem for the flora and fauna that exists in it. Coral Reefs, Mountain Regions, and The Arctic Regions are most susceptible to these problems.

Wildlife Crime
Wildlife Crime refers to illegal poaching activities that endanger wildlife. It may also involve the smuggling and transport of an animal product like rhino horns.
Wildlife crime is a threat mainly to elephants, rhinos, and tigers. This situation needs to end as the ecosystem is getting destroyed. These animals are facing the risk of extinction.
This crime is now the fifth most illicit trade in the world. The WWF is now leading a global campaign to make people aware of the problems of wildlife trade. We need to reduce the demands for these animal products to be able to make a difference.
The Theme for World Environment Day 2020
The Theme for World Environment Day 2020 will be 'Biodiversity.'

Biodiversity
Biodiversity includes the life on Earth at all levels of the ecosystem. It contains bacteria and fungi to organisms like the elephant and man.
It is essential to preserve biodiversity as every organism, no matter how small, plays a part in the ecosystem. It needs to be protected. If there is a shortage of one body in the ecosystem, the entire ecosystem is compromised. Biodiversity is the right to exist.
Biodiversity also has cultural and religious values. In recent years, humans have begun to dominate the planet. This problem causes a massive change in the ecosystem and damages biodiversity. We need to find ways to rectify all of the issues that we have created.
